Foxx Bandits - Gold Dresses [EP]
The Foxx Bandits hail from northwest London. Their first release Gold Dresses is stated to come out December 6th on Inaugural Records. It is only a four track EP, but I will take anything I can get from this band. I just love their sound.

The Foxx Bandits’ roots are folksy, but they have a way of making folk sound heavy and relevant as hell. This band is not your traditional acoustic folk. They draw from The Pixies and David Bowie to make their music melodic, heavy and innovative. Their songwriting is incredible. Yes, The Pixies and Bowie sound comes through, but The Foxx Bandits showed me in four tracks exactly what they are capable of doing and they blew me away. The vocals are a cross between Frank Black and David Bowie. The musicianship, creativity, and vocal delivery are top notch. It has a huge arena rock sound.

The first track ‘Beach Fatigue’ starts out with a strong bass line then launches into lush guitar work and vocals before it goes all out into a heavy California beach bum Pixies chorus. Track two ‘Kafka’ starts out very quiet indeed. The vocals drop syllables and are full of a subtle swagger over a slowly building beautiful retro psyche pop soundscape. This is one of the most powerful songs on Gold DressesEP. The climax of this song sounds like it could belong on David Bowie’s “The Man Who Fell To Earth“. The lyrics are brilliant. ‘She drowned in the river and the river went Kafka, and with a stone cold stare he said the world will burn long after you’re dead’. Thees lyrics give me the chills every time.

The Foxx Bandits easily walk between the lines of shoe gaze, space pop, and more hard edged punk sounds. The entire feel of this EP is colossal.
Track three 'Youth' is more attitude driven rock and roll. It is raunchy and lush at the same time. The female background vocals and the dropped beats and to the mystique of this song. The final song ‘Gold Dresses’ alternates between a delicate Bob Dylan type tune with huge, monumental aural eruptions underneath that never quite come to the surface but are always lingering. This song is very intense nonetheless. The bass work is very strong and the background choruses bring to mind The Sisters of Mercy or The Rolling Stones.

I thoroughly enjoyed Gold Dresses EP. I highly suggest everyone to give this one a spin. It will not disappoint. I can’t wait for them to release a full length album. Go check out their My Space and give 'Gold Dresses' and "Youth a listen.
