It's all Dave's Fault

The TV channel that is.  Whereas I know plenty of Daves I can't really lay the blame on any of them and blame isn't really the right word.

I like the idea of this fictional bloke Dave, that he has his own TV show and he broadcasts the TV shows that he likes.  So there's comedy programs and specialist interest ones, informative documentaries and political satire all with the running theme that they are the shows that Dave likes to watch.  It's all a marketing scheme of course, there isn't really a Dave, but the idea is still a good one.

So why not apply that same logic to a record label?

Rather than create a label focused on one particular genre (or scene or with the intention or putting a marketable brand of pop to the top of the charts) why not simply provide a platform for musicians who make music that I like the chance to be heard by a wider audience and maybe other people will like it to.

"Music I like, by people I like" is the phrase that keeps returning to me when trying to describe Inaugural Records, good music by good people regardless of genre. It sounds fanciful and a little optimistic but that doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't be done.

Inaugural Records is intended in many ways as a cooperative effort.  I have no idea how to make good music, but I do know how to release it and how to make it heard.  There are costs involved certainly, but then there are costs in everything. Are those costs insurmountable? not at all.

So this is where it begins.

I intend to provide Independent musicians a platform and exposure, to offer opportunities that 10 years ago would've purely been the purview of large corporations and to enjoy doing it.

Inaugural Records inaugural post.
